Connect PlayStation Controllers to PC with DS3

The MotioninJoy DS3 tool, which stands for Dual Shock 3, is used to connect PlayStation controllers to the PC, so one can use the controllers for games on the computer. An easy set-up, followed by the plugging in of the gamepad, then allows gamers to play computer games using the external controllers. The program works like an adaptor and a connecting mechanism between PlayStation controllers and Windows PC.

How does Motioninjoy DS3 tool work?

To be able to use the PlayStation and Xbox controllers, one needs to simply download the DS3 tool, and run the program. Then, one needs to plug in the Playstation and Xbox controllers, either through a USB connector or even via Bluetooth. Upon running the MotioninJoy DS3 program, the controller will show as an icon on the file destination you choose. The program shows a number of configuration options, to let the controllers operate in the best way. Once configured, the PSP controllers can be used to play any game on the computer.

Before starting the connection, one can even test whether the connection is active by using the Vibration Test button. If you click on the option, the gamepad vibrates, which indicates that the command from the computer are reaching the game controllers, and thus is working fine, and is ready for play.

What are the best things about using DS3 tool?

The DS3 tool makes it very easy for gamers to play all kinds of computer games using the PlayStation controller. This means, that the classic gaming console controller can actually be used in a PC, which makes the gaming experience comprehensive. Especially for combat games or any fast-paced racing games, where the gamepad is intuitive and easy to use, this simple program lets players use the PlayStation gaming controllers to play PC games.

With this program, there is no need to invest in expensive adaptors or specially designed Windows controllers. The PlayStation gaming controllers work well for this case, and this program just makes them accessible for use on Windows. So, this simple free program helps you evade costs of complicated, and specific to Windows equipment.

What goes against MotioninJoy?

MotioninJoy DS3 tool is a that lets you connect the PlayStation gamepad to the PC, but the user interface is extremely confusing, and one really doesn’t get the idea of what it is doing. When one first installs and opens the program, one can see a homepage, which can be scrolled down to see some ads asking for registry. There are some social media graphics and basically one doesn’t understand what needs to be done on the first go.

Also, there are too many ads that run on the program, and one can even mistake the simple application as spam, as it pops up looking like an advertisement. Even when you navigate around the ads, the design is really not clear, and it is quite hard to get around it. For a gaming-related program, one would imagine the design to be a bit more evolved, but it disappoints colossally in this area, as it continues to look like a pop-up ad from the 90s.

Even while running, the program is seen to have many lags, errors, and inconsistencies, so instead of enjoying the game, you spend half the time trying to figure out how to make the adaptor DS3 work. A simple design and interface could have easily sorted this issue, which is now so counter-intuitive, one might as well just use the controls on the computer system, instead of going through the trouble of trying to make their way around the program.

There are also some cases of viruses embedded in the code, and there have been errors restraining the program, once it has been installed on the computer. There are frequent errors that one encounters, and a number of Youtube tutorials are found to try to solve the errors. However, it is a severe design and programming flaw, if these many errors are found in the program.

MotioninJoy DS3 is only compatible with Windows, which is a drawback in case one would like to use the gamepad on other devices like tablets, mobile phones, etc. Since everything is mobile-first now, this is an area that has still be left untouched by MotioninJoy DS3.

What are some of the alternatives to MotioninJoy DS3?

The main competitor to MotioninJoy DS3 tool is Better DS3. The program serves the same purpose as MotioninJoy, but does not have as many lags and erros as MotioninJoy. As the name suggests, Better DS3 driver is actually a better version of MotioninJoy, and it is easier to use, has a good interface, even though it is standard, without any interesting design elements.

To adapt the PlayStation or Xbox controllers to Android phones, the Sixaxis gamepad is the alternative to MotioninJoy, which only works on Windows. Since a lot of games are not moving to mobile, this is an edge that MotioninJoy DS3 loses out on, restricting it only to Windows.

What is the final verdict on MotioninJoy DS3?

MotioninJoy DS3 in theory is a highly functional program to have, solving the simple problem of connecting Playstation or Xbox Controllers to PCs, so one can use it to play computer games, making the gaming experience more evolved. However, there are more problems with MotioninJoy DS3 than solutions. With frequent lags, errors, bugs, ads, and interruptions, DS3 is more cumbersome to use than the keyboard!

The program is free to download and use, however, it does comes with its own set of issues. There are severe design flaws, annoying ads that pop up frequently, and a very confusing interface. Overall, the experience of using MotioninJoy DS3 is not pleasant, and it just takes away the precious time of actually playing a game. One is better off just playing with the keyboard and mouse keys than going through the hassle of figuring out MotioninJoy DS3.
